Established in 1947, the National Association of Local Councils (NALC) is a membership body representing the interests of Parish and Town Councils. We work in partnership with County Associations to support, promote and improve Local Councils.
A ‘Local Council’ is a universal term for community, neighbourhood, parish and town councils in England and are the first tier of local government and are statutory bodies. They serve electorates ranging from tens to hundreds to thousands of people and are independently elected and raise their own precept (a form of council tax). There are circa-10,000 Local Councils in England and around 80,000 councillors who serve in these.
We believe that vibrant and dynamic Local Councils will help communities to build strength and resilience and continue to improve the quality of life of residents. We are here to ensure all Local Council communities are given a democratic voice.
In the current climate with Local Councils providing an ever growing range of services it is more important than ever to have sector experts we can rely on who can support our endeavours and arrange the right protection for councils delivering services and representing communities. That’s why NALC has partnered with BHIB Councils Insurance to enable Local Councils to be as effective and efficient as possible within their communities – and we thank them for all their continued support.
It is more important than ever to have insurance experts who know our sector and upon whom we can rely on when arranging the right protection for Local Councils delivering services and representing communities. Without doubt, BHIB has shown a very strong commitment to the sector and I trust the Councils will have the same confidence that NALC has developed to consult with BHIB to affect all their insurance needs.
Sue Baxter, Chairman of NALC
NALC has worked closely with BHIB over the last 18 months and I have been impressed by their commitment to the sector and supporting communities. They have taken time to meet with key stakeholders from county associations and actively consider how their products can develop to reflect the growing challenges facing the sector.
Jonathan Owen, Chief Executive of NALC

We have a mutual drive to put customers at the heart of everything we do and we are delighted with the level of professionalism and commitment that BHIB Councils Insurance provides.
We look forward to continuing the partnership with BHIB, providing our Local Council customers with the support they need when they need it most.
